Author Interviews

Mountains

Welcome to the author interview page on our site J.R. O’Neill Writes. Why the picture of a green field leading up to the unforgiving mountain? Well I think this symbolizes the path most new authors must travel.

We start at the green field, we have an idea that just will not stay put in our head. The idea slowly develops as we walk in the green field, slowing here and there to take in the beauty of what we are creating, what we are giving life to through our words.

As we put the final words to the page, as we reach the foothills the doubts start to gather. Will anyone want to read this? Do I really want to put myself out there as an author? Can I climb this mountain?

Then with some trepidation we take those first steps onto the mountainside. We ask family and friends (if we have any left) to read our work. When the response is positive we wonder if they are being honest or just trying to not hurt our feelings. The mountain is looking steeper all the time.

Those of us who are lucky stumble across a Mountain Guide. Someone who has already climbed the mountain and has seen the sunrise from the summit. We make connections with other authors sometimes in online groups like Writers750 on LinkedIn. Sometimes at conferences and author workshops. With the Mountain Guide we confidently step onto the path that leads straight up the mountain.

The author interviews I am honored to include here, represent the best of the Mountain Guides. These authors are not ashamed to let us see what it has taken for them to reach the summit. Giving hope to those who are still on the green fields and even those of us who have only dreamed of taking that first step…

Arlene Lagos

The third interview is for author, and Mountain Guide Arlene Lagos, the author of the outstanding “Beyond Earth” Series, “Butterflies Wake” and the newly released “Violet Hopes” Co written with her own daughter. I first became aware of Arlene on a LinkedIn Writers group. I was captivated with her creativity in the short (micro) story format and only recently was I able to read one of her books. “Butterflies Wake” and I must say that it was a real page turner for me. It delves deep into the epidemic of domestic violence, and the woman who can find a way to fight back.
